Last year, renewable generation surpassed coal and nuclear in the U.S. for the first time. With that mix expected to rise this year (wind increasing from 11% to 12% and solar 4% to 5%) it is more important than ever to have accurate forecasts for these intermittent, hard-to-predict sources.
Next month, we will be releasing the latest feature to the Amperon platform: Net-Demand Forecasts.
Built by the same data science team that won the top energy forecasting competition, the BigDEAL Challenge, two times in a row, our net-demand forecasts utilize granular weather points and site-specific wind and solar generation data to provide the highest-precision forecasts available.

Net-Demand Forecast Features
This initial release is for ERCOT only and will provide:
- Grid-scale forecast for the next 14 days
- Updated hourly
- Additional charts that breakout grid scale solar and wind generation forecasts
- Overlays of the ISO’s net-demand, wind and solar forecasts
- Comparisons of Amperon’s Day-Ahead forecasts vs the ISO’s Day-Ahead forecasts
Just in time for the summer, these forecasts will help our customers balance the volatility and risk that renewables bring to the grid. Stay tuned for more information.
